His father, a sheet-metal worker,
an American with German and English.
Bratt has three sisters and one brother,
Peter Bratt, a director.
Bratt also has three half brothers
from his father's previous marriage.

His grandfather, George Bratt,
was an actor on Broadway.
Benjamin's passion for acting has
been passed down.

Bratt graduated in 82 from
San Francisco's Lowell High School.
In 86, he obtained his B.F.A. (Bachelors of Fine Arts)
with honors
from the University of California
at Santa Barbara.
He was then seen entering the Master's program
at the American Conservatory Theater
of San Francisco.

He enjoys engaging in outdoor sports
such as surfing, mountain biking
and rock climbing.
He also loves bodybuilding, swims,
plays tennis, and in-line skates as often as he
gets the chance to.

Bratt started acting at the Utah Shakespeare Festival.
He got into a pilot for a television series called Juarez
that unfortunately ended up on the cutting room floor.

Although he never married, Bratt dated Monika McClure,
a documentary filmmaker,
exclusively for six years until 1996.
After that, he spent almost eight months
with actress Jennifer Esposito after
they met on the drama Law & Order,
where she made a guest appearance.
He most recent was famous and beautiful actress
Julia Roberts, dated since 1997.
